The book character challenge!

Central Library is a place of stories – help us bring those stories to life by dressing up as your favourite book character! Adults and children alike can dress-up and join in our fancy dress parade. All ages dressing up as book characters will receive a small gift.

Warning: this story contains twits being vile to each other

“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” Mr and Mrs Twit are ready to welcome you to the magical world of Roald Dahl as storyteller John Kirk retells ‘The Twits’. This 40 minute presentation is suitable for children and families aged 6+. ‘The Twits’ is presented with the kind permission of Casarotto Ramsay and the Roald Dahl estate.

Meet author/illustrator, Lynne Chapman

Some of Lynne’s fantastic illustrations are on our new children’s library cards (ask us if you haven’t got one already!). See how she brings her picture book characters to life through drawing, and be inspired to become an author/illustrator yourself. Suitable for ages 4+.

The Big Friendly Hunt – A promenade performance

The Big Friendly Hunt – Something’s afoot in the library! Detectives Miss Take and Miss Rule need your urgent help. Stories are escaping from their books! Follow the trail to discover giant footprints, chocolate wrappers and peach juice to restore order to the shelves. Have fun exploring the amazing spaces of Manchester Central Library. This unique theatrical experience will include something Dahlicious for each hunter. Three performances for 20 children at 12.30-1.15pm, 1.45-2.30pm and 3.00-3.45pm. Book tickets at Eventbrite.
