What a fantastic day we had at Central Library and Archives on Sunday! Crowds of people came along to watch the Lion Dance and take part in the many activities celebrating Chinese New Year. There was face painting, origami, kite making, musicians, dancers, green screen photographs and the fascinating Chinese Tea Ceremony.

The afternoon started with a vibrant and energetic performance of the Lion Dance performed by Manchester Chi Mo Kung Fu, Dragon and Lion Dance Group. Click here to visit their Facebook page.

The Confucius Institute from Manchester University provided a number of table top workshops, including, the Chinese Tea Ceremony, Paper Folding, Chinese Knot Making and Paper Cutting.

In addition to all the activities we had a wonderful display of collections from the Manchester Chinese Centre, some of which are still on display.
Our Green Screen proved to be very popular! Using images from our archive of China Town, the Chinese Opera and past events our visitors really engaged with the activity with some great results. Plus in the Media Lounge the FabLab brought their laser cutter, making lanterns and stencils!

We would like to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along and made our Chinese New Year Celebrations a day to remember.
