Manchester-based music charity Brighter Sound and Manchester Central Library’s Library Live are bringing together talented female artists from the UK and Europe for an exciting cross-cultural collaboration.
Following a public call-out in December 2018 the chosen artists are Laura Campbell, a Liverpool-based writer and musician from Westhoughton, and Mari Sainio, a Finnish composer and producer.
Their work was premiered at Central Library at a special (and timely) event in March. Following the UK premiere, the two artists will go on to perform at a European festival in summer 2019.
Part of Both Sides Now – Brighter Sound’s groundbreaking initiative to support gender equality in music – the commission is part of a series of projects taking place across Manchester’s libraries. In partnership with Manchester City Council, the charity have also been working with communities at libraries in Longsight, Wythenshawe and Harpurhey to deliver ‘Creative Spaces’ music workshops and events to empower young women from across the city.
