Libraries are delivering 2 initiatives to support people with Internet access as part of the Council’s response to the Covid situation. Residents who have no Internet access at home or are not comfortable using the Internet are at risk of becoming even more vulnerable as they find themselves unable to access vital services, stay informed, keep in contact with friends or family.

So far we have:

  • Delivered free tablets to 20 residents
  • Started a service to enable vulnerable residents to receive phone calls to support them with using the Internet, if they have Internet access but are not comfortable using their device.

Pictured is Heather, one of the first residents to get a free laptop. She lives on her own with no Internet or mobile phone with no family nearby. She now makes video calls with people she met at the coffee mornings at Newton Heath Library.

If you know of any resident that would benefit from either scheme, please email their details to digitalinclusion@manchester.gov.uk
