Storytime with Barack and Michelle Obama

Libraries all over the world are reaching out to engage with families and children at home by creating a variety of online videos and events! Virtual storytimes are being enjoyed in so many homes as people listen to old favourites as well as new stories read by their local library staff and even celebrities!

Most recently we loved hearing this new story: ‘The Word Collector’, by Peter H. Reynolds, beautifully read by Barack and Michelle Obama.

Barack and Michelle Obama also announced some plans for the new Chicago Public Library, their chosen book and words about libraries summed up how important libraries are for everyone.

“I remember my first trip to the library and how important I felt. I was around age 4. My library card was a key that unlocked a world of knowledge and experiences”.

Library staff, children, families and regular visitors in our communities have missed being able to see each other and access services at their local library. With thanks to the amazing Library staff who have been able to create and share their home-made storytime videos, children can continue to see and hear from their local library friends.
