Discover the joys of the Secret Garden with a fantastic new film (and read about our own inspiration for our children’s library themed Secret Garden)
With our children’s library design at Central Library being based on the story of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, we couldn’t think of anything better than sharing news of the latest film adaptation with you! The imagination and storytelling magic to be found in this classic tale and new film are timeless and still resonate with audiences today.
To celebrate the release of The Secret Garden on 23 October in cinemas and on Sky Cinema, we were given exclusive access to Rosie Alison, the film’s producer. Read her full Q&A with Read Manchester here.
You can download your very own Secret Garden booklet with quizzes and activities here, or if you’re quick, you can pick one up from the children’s library in Central Library. And enjoy the film trailer again and again – it looks truly amazing! Remember that you can also borrow the book for free from us (of course).
Being the birthplace of the author, Manchester Central Library has mirrored the universal appeal of this timeless novel. Following refurbishment in 2014 we transformed the children’s library into a secret garden. With the use of digital technology and projections of animals and wildlife, The Secret Garden inspired library follows an environmental, sustainable theme which children and families can explore again and again. We’re looking to develop this theme in our new look Secret Garden library, which will be revealed in 2021.
#TheSecretGarden comes to cinemas and @SkyCinemaUK on October 23rd
