Reading Rascals was set up as a monthly themed activity booklet which would eventually become a virtual reading group. We can now offer our virtual reading group each month for children accompanied by a grown up. The booklet was created by Manchester library staff and was given a different theme each month. Each month there are book recommendations, book reviews, crafts, quizzes and more to inspire reading around the theme.
The Reading Rascals booklets also works great to encourage reading for pleasure in schools as a one off activity or on a more regular basis. Virtual sessions have also been delivered in classrooms using the activity booklets on themes such as silly, poetry, mystery and Black History Month. We are continuing to create new themed booklets each month and are also creating a monthly video taster of our latest theme.
Our long-term plan is to deliver face to face reading groups for children aged 8-11 in Central Library. In the meantime we are enjoying sharing our amazing themes and hope you enjoy them too.
