As the reopening of Manchester’s cultural venues approaches, we have put together a guide to some of the attractions that you will be able to visit in the city soon.
Opening 17 May
HOME
The gallery will open with Koestler Arts exhibition curated by Brenda Birungi (aka Lady Unchained) titled Soul Journey to Truth. The exhibition shines a light on the creative talent within prisons, secure settings, and people on probation in the North West. There will also be a full roster of films including three Oscar nominees.
HOME’s outdoor site, Homeground, will open 28 May for outdoor theatre.
Bookings are preferred and encouraged but walk ups are possible subject to availability.
Opening 19 May
Manchester Art Gallery
The gallery’s collections along with Grayson’s Art Club exhibition will be open. Free tickets will need to be booked for Grayson’s Art Club but the main gallery will be available to walk ups
The gallery will be open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm
Science & Industry Museum
The new Special Exhibitions Gallery & Top Secret exhibition (with GCHQ) will be open along with Revolution Manchester, Textiles and Experiment galleries, plus new gardens in Upper Yard.
The museum will be open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm and booking will be required.
People’s History Museum
The People’s History Museum look forward to welcoming you back and all of the museum will be open, including the Banner Exhibition and main gallery spaces. The archive and study centre will also be open.
The museum will be open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm, bookings are preferred but walk ups are possible.
Manchester Museum
The natural history galleries will be open and free to visit, this includes the vivarium home to a large collection of beautiful Costa Rican frogs and of course Stan the T-Rex.
The museum will be open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm and a timed ticket will need to be booked in advance.
CFCCA – Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art
CFCCA will re-open with their exhibitions Multiplicities in Flux and Autopsy of a Home which brings together works by Grace Lau and Eelyn Lee in a dialogue around identity and belonging in Britain.
The gallery will be open Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 4pm and booking is advised.
Castlefield Gallery
Obstructions, our locked-down exhibition, will open for just five days until Sunday 23 May. The exhibition brought together 15 artists from across GM, they had to re make an existing piece of their work but had to accept a bespoke ‘Obstruction’ on their work given to them by another artist in the exhibition.
The gallery will be open Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 5.30pm
The Whitworth
For reopening only one exhibition ‘Imran Perretta: the destructors’ film screening will be on display.
The gallery will be open Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 4pm and booking is preffered.
Opening 24 May
Hope Mill Theatre
Opening with reduced capacity and socially distanced seating for a received production of Meet Me At Dawn from HER Productions.
Advanced Booking only. There is also an online live stream option.
Opening 27 May
National Football Museum
The museum is opening with a new full-scale exhibition showcasing some of those who’ve made an outstanding contribution to football, both on and off the pitch.
The museum will be open Thursday to Sunday 10am to 5pm. Booking is recommended.
