Following a bright new refresh, North City Library in Harpurhey is really upping its game with a packed programme of fun and inclusive activities for all ages. The Hello Saturday morning sessions of crafts, games and LEGO are really popular with lots of children and families joining in free simple arts activities themed around our favourite children’s books and stories such as “Owl Babies” by Martin Waddell and Alan Garner’s “The Owl Service”. Our very talented Library staff were also busy during Eid creating a gorgeous, visually engaging display of books celebrating the end of Ramadan and wishing all our families a peaceful and happy Eid ul-Fitr.

In our newly refurbished Age Friendly Lounge there is a warm welcome, plus comfortable chairs and a cosy atmosphere for seniors in the Harpurhey and Moston communities. Our Grand Day Out social group meets on Monday afternoons plus we have an Age Friendly hour for everyone on Thursdays 10-11am with tea, coffee, biscuits, magazines to read and a relaxed chat with our Library staff Alan, Martin and Kingsley.

Best of all is our stunning new Children’s Zone in the Story Tent with a new sofa, chairs, fabulous chalkboard for kids to draw on – it’s a relaxing and fun space for everyone. The weekly Tuesday morning Story Time at 11am for pre-school children with parents and carers really enjoy the bright colours and stimulating atmosphere.
We’re looking forward to showing off our new look at our upcoming events including the Happy Safe and Free Art Trail workshops by fantastic artist Emma Martin creating art expressing happiness and safety and exploring the journeys refugees and asylum seekers endure to reach a place of freedom. Workshops take place on Saturday 28 May and 4 June 2-4pm followed by exhibition on Sat 18 June. Activities are suitable for all ages and everyone is welcome.
