Mum and three sons enjoying building a toy car park at Newton Heath Library

With the cold weather just around the corner, this winter Manchester Libraries are aiming to help our lovely library families as much as we can during this current cost of living crisis. You may already know that all of our Libraries in Manchester are now Warm Hubs where you can go to get warmed up with a hot drink free at your local library plus you can find advice and information about help with your budget this winter. But did you also know that a select few of our Libraries are also offering toys and games for children and families to enjoy whilst visiting the Library?

From Monday 31 October, in addition to our normal great selection of books and reading for all ages, six libraries across the city will offer a selection of games, toys and play equipment to help keep children entertained whilst parents or caregivers are visiting the library.

You’ll find traditional play items and toys for all ages from 0 – 12yrs+ and of course it’s a brilliant way to spend quality time with your family enjoying a game of Jenga, Buckaroo or Pictionary – why not beat your dad at Scrabble or chill out with a relaxing game of chess or dominoes? And of course fun and play teach valuable skills including spelling, maths, sharing, science principles, general knowledge and much more.

Please just ask a member of library staff for help if you would like to access this offer during your visit. We do ask parents and caregivers to supervise their children during play and encourage children to tidy toys away after their visit so that everyone can enjoy them too.

The six libraries offering toys and games are:

Forum Library in Wythenshawe 0161 227 3770

Longsight Library 0161 227 3706

Newton Heath Library 0161 234 4474

North City Library in Harpurhey 0161 219 6442

Powerhouse Library, Moss Side 0161 227 3758

Withington Library 0161 227 3720

We’re looking forward to this winter now – it’s looking like it could be a lot of fun!
