Libraries across Manchester delivered Black History Month workshops with children during the half term holiday.

Working with this Black History Month’s theme, Saluting our Sisters, children were asked to create their Sheroes and Heroes. We had pictures and info about some of the women who might inspire them … think Dina Asher Smith, Doreen Lawrence, Rosa Parks etc

Childrens Sheroes/Heroes were fantastic, so many created were “my mum”.….awwww!

Other Sheroes included Zainab Alema – rugby player, Nicola Adams- the first women’s Olympic Gold medalist, who is also a member of LGBTQ community. Another feature was some of the boys favourite, footballer, Kylian Mbappé.

Parent/carers and children alike loved the activity, with one parent commenting“Thanks for celebration for Black History Month, that memorise these women who were very supportive for community. I salute those women “Saluting Our Sisters”also. Me and my daughter really enjoyed today. Thank you Longsight Library!”
