ASSHETON HISTORY ROADSHOW COMING UP!

A traditional archer aiming an arrow at a target indoors, with a green floor and archery setup in the background.

We’re excited to announce the dates of our final events in the Assheton of Middleton history project. Following the purchase in 2023 of this important manorial document collection for the Greater Manchester County Record Office which was generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the V & A, Friends of National Libraries and the Manchester Libraries Trust, securing our heritage forever for communities of Greater Manchester.

Since then we’ve taken a deep dive into the world of Sir Ralphe Assheton, Lord of the Manor of Middleton, exploring and sharing the fascinating stories within this collection with the help of our amazing Archives volunteers. Talks and events have already taken place in Manchester and Rochdale. Coming up we have two more public events celebrating this rich episode of local history which spans more than 800 years and showcases life for everyday life for local people and their lord in Middleton.
