Celebrating the Central Library Summer of Family Fun.

The staff at the Central Library have delivered another jam packed programme of free activities and events for families over the summer holidays.

We’ve offered something to do each weekday and some Saturdays too. Our activities are aimed at encouraging families to come in and take part in the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge.

The summer kicked off with Manchester Day where we went outdoors to invite families in to take part, get involved with the Blue Peter Book trail and Book Club and also complete the tasks to earn a Blue Peter badge. They could also get creative with Lego or have a go at a game.

Each day had a special theme. Families could pick from –

A whole range of activities were on offer from puppet making, hat decorating, board games, Lego, a workshop from the National Football  Museum, Little Movers and Shakers sessions, Doodle and dance and a Chess competition.

Some of our personal highlights were the Scrumptious Show which was a heart warming interactive family show, National Playday where we joined with some super active colleagues from the Work and Skills team and Our Music Day that was packed with families making lots of noise and dancing in the building!

We’ll finish off the holidays with a back to school activity where the children can start preparing to go back to school with decorated school bags and more.

Over 2,500 attending the summer events. Here’s what they thought of the activities…

The board gaming event for kids was fantastic. The variety of games and the friendly staff made it fun for all ages. It was great to see the kids engaged and socialising. Thank you.

Music day-Great idea and lovely space. Creative ideas with music and soft balls all encouraged children to join in. Kids age range was catered for. Lots of laughter and happy families. Well done.

I attended with my 3 children ages 12,10,7. This was their first visit to Central Library and they enjoyed it very much. They engaged in the cupcake and planting activities and the younger 2 wrote book reviews. The activities were engaging and different. We came as part of the Blue Peter Book trail and they want to come back to visit again in the future.

Thank you very much. My children had so much fun doing a crafting activity and watching a lovely movie. Even my little boy stayed focused and enjoyed it so much.

The kids enjoyed making new crafts and getting ready for school with their handmade goodies. Lovely craft ideas. Thanks for hosting.
