Empowering Young People

In collaboration with Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights UK, Manchester Libraries have been vibrant hubs of creativity and learning, hosting a series of workshops and art exhibitions focused on human rights education. These initiatives aim to empower individuals, especially young people, to understand and advocate for their rights through artistic expression.
Pop-Up Art Exhibitions: Bringing Human Rights to the Community
In December 2024, RFK Human Rights UK set up pop-up art displays in three Manchester libraries: North City, Gorton, and Wythenshawe. These exhibitions featured artwork by local illustrator, Emma Evans, who brought to life the 30 Universal Declarations of Human Rights in the Illustrated version, recently published by the RFK Human Rights UK team. They also featured placards with powerful human rights messages, and a Soap Box, encouraging library visitors to reflect on the messaging and take their own stand.. The displays served as a catalyst for conversations around human rights, making the subject accessible to our local communities.
Protest Placard Workshops: Voices for Change
One of the most impactful parts of this partnership has been the protest placard workshop, where participants designed and created their own placards inspired by human rights themes. These workshops encouraged attendees to think deeply about the issues that matter most to them and provided a creative outlet to express their thoughts. Through bold colours, striking messages, and artistic designs, participants transformed cardboard into powerful statements of advocacy. The workshops highlighted the importance of peaceful protest and the role of art in social movements, leaving attendees inspired and motivated to use their voices for change.
Robert F Kennedy Human Rights UK has delivered Voices for Change Workshops in Forum & Gorton Library with schools from the surrounding areas. They have also delivered a fantastic fun workshop at Longsight Library’s Fun Palace using lino prints from the 30 Illustrated Articles.
