Last year Chorlton Library entered into a unique partnership with the City of Melbourne Libraries in Australia.

It has brought Manchester and Melbourne, two UNESCO Cities of Literature, closer together through a programme of literature and cultural exchange.

The partnership will continue to develop over the coming months and years.  

Melbourne Libraries and Manchester Libraries have set up a significant book exchange.

Melbourne donated books about First Nation culture to Manchester Libraries which will be held in Chorlton Library and will be available for loan across the city. 

Manchester Libraries donated books relating to our diverse community which included books from renowned author Jackie Kay, who also recorded three of her poems to be shared between Manchester and Melbourne during Black History Month.

Chorlton Library also hosted a month long photography exhibition and children’s competition which shall be transferred to Melbourne Libraries later this year.

Our Christmas celebrations shall also celebrate this exciting new partnership. We’re already planning to include traditional Australian songs in our carol concert.

Head of Community and City Services at the City of Melbourne Libraries, Councillor Gladys Liu said:
