Library of the Month: Arcadia!

Find out what makes Arcadia library and Leisure Centre a favourite place to visit in the heart of Levenshulme. Arcadia Library and Leisure Centre opened in April 2016 and runs in partnership with Greenwich Leisure Limited.

The library has a vibrant atmosphere and benefits from early opening and late closure mirroring the Leisure Centre hours. Customers can access both self-service and staffed hours to get on the internet, use free WI-FI, plus photocopying, printing and a superb range of books for all ages. We have loads of PCs, and reservation lockers for picking up your books at a time convenient to you.

The library is a welcoming community hub where you can join in with our regular activities for adults, such as Age Friendly Coffee Morning, our monthly reading group and Talk English conversation club.

If you have little ones and want to get them out and about, join our Monday morning story sessions (term time only) featuring Little Reads, delivered monthly by Manchester Literature Festival.

A variety of year-round fun activities, such as colouring club, Lego club, holiday craft events and the fantastic Summer Reading Challenge, make us a fabulous place to bring your children. We also work collaboratively with local schools, offering inspiring and creative activities such as author visits and World Book Day events.

Most recently, Arcadia Library staff were super proud when a child from St. Andrews school in Levenshulme won the design a library card competition celebrating 90 years of Manchester Central Library. The Levenshulme Youth Project also runs Friday evening sessions from the library.

And of course, because we are situated in the leisure centre, once you’ve popped in for your books, there are so many other activities that you can take part in; a fully equipped gym for both adults and juniors, swimming, yoga, a community studio to name a few.

The library is well located and has good transport links and offers free parking. For more details, please visit our website. You can also find more information on our YouTube channel, including the library virtual tour, and social media platforms.
