Library of the Month: Brooklands Library

Brooklands Library is a fantastic public library with a warm atmosphere, located within Dixons Brooklands Academy on Moor Road in Brooklands Wythenshawe.

The library has a wonderful, committed staff team that works hard to give the community a great service, the library offers a wide range of facilities and opportunities including access to free Wi-Fi and computers, coffee days, children’s activities, Lego club, story time sessions and of course fabulous books for all tastes and requirements, what’s more it is all Free.

We offer many activities during the school holidays, including ongoing crafts during our opening hours and movies with free popcorn and drinks on most Wednesdays at 3pm.

Summer is always a busy time at Brooklands Library, we deliver the Summer Reading Challenge to keep children reading through the summer, and to support this we offer crafts, activities and events. This year we have had some fantastic sessions including the Dogs Trust with a pawsome workshop where the children learnt to understand dogs, Love Science where they made light up pictures and gravity defying models, Susanna brought storytelling charm and Caroline made fabulous foam hand puppets. The sessions gave the children wonderful and different experiences, and all proved popular, we also had the regular ongoing craft table, so altogether it was a very full and fun summer.

We always have new events coming up, so do keep checking and picking up your copy of the What’s On leaflet, for example we have a fantastic live owl show on Saturday 26 October, 2.30pm. Please contact the library to book your place, it is one not to be missed.

Age Friendly Coffee Day takes place on a Tuesday, the day is very popular with the local community, offering free drinks and biscuits, it’s a lovely friendly social event and great for a catch up and chat. We occasionally have guest speakers and set activities, recently we had a scam awareness session with Manchester Age UK.

Brooklands had a lovely baby rhyme time session for all non-walking babies and their grown-ups, all had a great time. We also run a weekly (term time only) storytime session on Mondays at 11am for pre-school children, the Storytime is busy and loved by the children and adults who attend.

Before the summer break, we have a special storytime, it’s a Graduation Celebration for those children starting school in September, each child that is leaving gets to dress up in a gown and hat and receives a certificate. It’s a lovely special moment for the children and their adults, as some of these children will have been coming to the sessions from being tiny babies.

Brooklands Library is such a welcoming environment for all the community to enjoy and benefit from, it has a genuine focus on people and how it can contribute to them, all entering the library are greeted with a smile and made to feel very welcome.
