Library of the Month: Gorton

The Gorton Hub building brought together a library, GPs, mental health and housing services, a Job Centre Plus and adult education, along with One Manchester Housing Association and the Gorton and Levenshulme Integrated Neighbourhood Team.

Since opening in 2022, working together has helped the different teams build stronger connections. Every three months, you’ll find an information marketplace event in the Atrium. A team from each organisation set up stalls to share information about the services they provide.

The three community rooms at the library are always bustling with a variety of activities. These rooms serve other building residents, local organisations and community groups, as well as hosting library activities facilitated by our dedicated staff and volunteers.

We actively engage with children of all ages to promote reading for pleasure. Our initiatives include class visits from nearby schools, a summer reading challenge, author visits, and weekly Storytime sessions. This year, the library team is excited to welcome seven classes for World Book Day on March 6th. These activities foster a love for reading and connect young readers with literature in a fun and interactive way.

We conduct craft activities and a film club for children during Half Term. On Saturdays, kids keep busy with LEGO club, chess club, and play with toys and board games.
