Manchester Libraries has just launched ‘My First Library Card’ – a brand-new library card for babies. Sharing a story with your baby is a chance to relax and spend time together. It’s also a great way for babies and toddlers to learn new words – even the youngest babies respond to songs, music and rhythm.
Your baby can have their very own library card from the moment they are born, and there are no fines for the late return of books. We have baby board books with sounds and textures, and plenty of picture books too. Most libraries hold free storytimes for babies and toddlers with stories, songs and rhymes. Find details of a session in your area at manchester.gov.uk/storytime.
All parents registering their child’s birth in Manchester will also be given a leaflet with tips on sharing books with their baby and inviting them to collect their baby’s new library card from their local library. We don’t want you to miss out if you’ve already registered your baby with the Registrar though – please just ask us for one of these lovely new cards!
Libraries are relaxing, welcoming places to bring your baby, and you can meet other parents, carers and local families, as well as accessing all of our other offers such as free Wifi and Internet, and fiction and non-fiction on a huge range of topics. So why not pop in to your nearest library and find out what we do.
Our lovely new card and promotional leaflet has been illustrated by the brilliant local children’s author and illustrator, Emma Reynolds.
