Manchester Libraries are seeking a new Central Library Manager in 2025. 

Manchester Central Library is one of the best known and most loved venues in the city. Welcoming families, children, and young people from both the local area and across the globe, in the year 2024-25 alone it attracted a huge 1.4 million people and stands as the most visited public library in the UK.

Since it opened its doors in 1934, the Central Library has been both a meeting place and a place of study in the heart of the city, with features such as its spectacular Wolfson Reading Room, unique Henry Watson Music Library, inspiring Exhibition Hall and more, making it an irreplaceable space for so many over the last 90 years.

Today, Central Library stands as one of the most respected in the UK and a hub of activity. Aspiring entrepreneurs use the Business and IP Centre to kick start their business ideas. Visitors to the city seek tourism tips at the Manchester Visitor Information Centre. Families revel in the storytimes in the vibrant Children’s Library. History and culture is treasured by our partners Manchester Histories, Archives+, The Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society, and Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Centre. Plus, the Library’s Events Team offer an exciting programme of gigs, film nights, author Q&As, readings and art exhibitions to suit every taste. Now recruiting to the post of Central Library Manager, Manchester Libraries are looking for an innovative, customer focussed library manager.

The role of the Central Library Manager is vital to delivering consistent, high-quality, customer-focused service for residents and visitors and is responsible for the operational delivery of the Central Library service.

Do you have proven experience in leading teams and delivering excellent customer service levels in a busy public library environment? Can you manage critical relationships with partners? Ensure a seamless service delivery? Manage and coordinate the delivery of a busy cultural programme?
