Powerhouse Library celebrates

Tuesday morning toddler story sessions are celebrating languages at Moss Side Powerhouse Library! The library manager Sylvia has organised for colleagues and volunteers to get involved with sharing Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar at the weekly story session in their mother languages throughout the month of February.

Our fantastic library assistant, Mustapha, who is from the Gambia, told the story in his mother tongue Wolof. A beautiful moment happened when a Spanish mum told him that her son’s father speaks Wolof with him and that the tot totally recognises it. In turn the mum volunteered to read the story also in her mother tongue, Spanish! How amazing to grow up with so many languages!

Other languages featured in this month’s story sessions are Arabic, Urdu and Sylvia’s own first language, German! Happy International Mother Language Day all!
