South Asian Heritage Month happens annually and seeks to elevate the prominence of British South Asian history and heritage in the UK through education, arts, culture, celebration and commemoration. It runs from 18th July to 17th August each year.
This year’s theme is ‘Stories to Tell’. Manchester Libraries are hosting the following events to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month
- Join artist Nayna Lad, making beautiful marionette puppets. Marionettes are a popular form of puppetry native to the state of Rajasthan, India. Used to illustrate folk tales, songs and ancient text. For children and families age 5yrs+

Curry Mile: A Changing Neighbourhood
Manchester Central Library is hosting an exhibition on the Curry Mile, called Curry Mile: A Changing Neighbourhood. A documentary photography project spanning 7 years (2016-2023). Photographers Michael Baker & Phil Portus explore ‘present day’ Wilmslow Road, Rusholme, and challenge perceptions of what ‘Curry Mile’ now represents. To accompany this exhibition, we are hosting a talk with the photographers on Thursday 20 July at 6pm.
