Sowing the Seeds of Change

Green Libraries Week takes place across our libraries Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November. This years theme is ‘Seeds of Change – Make a difference with Your Library’ and we are all invited to celebrate our climate action, big or small.

We’ve got a great range of activities going on from fun planting of Halloween themed Cress Heads for children and bulb planting for everyone activities as well as book displays. We’ve even got a great Mindful Walk happening in Highfield Park in Levenshulme!

Flying the Flag for Green Libraries

Free, family-friendly workshop celebrating Flying the Flag for Green Libraries at Gorton Library on Friday 31 October, 2.30 – 4.30 pm.
Led by Cabasa CIC, you’ll work with professional artists to turn your library’s collaborative design into a naturally dyed flag using batik (painting with hot wax). Suitable for ages 10+ (Due to the nature of the activity all children under the age of 16 must have a responsible adult with them.)
There will also be tie-dye activities suitable for children of all ages.
Each flag will celebrate nature and the power of libraries, becoming part of a Greater Manchester-wide touring exhibition with 10 unique flags – one for each local authority – to be created during Green Libraries Week (27 October – 2 November).
No experience needed, just bring your creativity! All materials are provided. Spaces are free but limited (20 participants per workshop this includes siblings). To book a place contact Gorton Library: 0161 227 3737

Mindful Walk

Join us for a beautiful mindful and reflective walk around Highfield park in Levenshulme, followed by cakes and coffee/tea back at Arcadia Library on Friday 24 October. Mindful walking in the city is a wonderful way to connect with the environments we live around. Often we find ourselves rushing between tasks in our busy lives, perhaps we are on autopilot mode. A mindful walk offers a very gentle way to step out of the busyness, and into a more connected awareness of our world. Which can develop a calmer less stressed place within ourselves. Booking is essential for this free event. Book here on Eventbrite.
