Design a ‘See Myself in Books’ bookmark

As part of our See Myself in Books campaign, we’re looking for 3 unique pictures which will be made into official Manchester Libraries bookmarks. This is your chance to have your artwork shared with children across Manchester.

We think it’s important for everyone to be able to read stories with people or characters just like them. Everybody is unique and our See Myself in Books campaign promotes fantastic books that celebrate different cultures, backgrounds and experiences.

Can you draw a picture that celebrates ethnically diverse or neurodiverse characters in books?

Ethnicity means belonging to a group of people who share the same culture, language or traditions.

Neurodiversity means that people’s brains work in different ways. Some people may learn, think, or experience the world differently.

There are three age categories;

The Prizes: One winner from each age category will win 1x Goody bag of various prizes and have their design made into bookmarks.

Find out more by downloading the entry form here. (there is one for age 5-12 year olds and one for 13-16 year olds). Enter by 17 May.

You can check out the terms and conditions of the competition here.

Our competition forms part of our See Myself in Books Festival (17-30 March) which celebrates our collections of books around ethnic diversity and neurodiversity, and the brilliant authors and illustrators who created them.  There are free events for Manchester schools and families, which you can find out about in the blog.

Our See Myself in Books campaign runs all year round – find out more about the programme and the research behind it here
