Next week is Manchester Beer Week (29th June – 8th July). Last year, the number of UK breweries rose above 2,000 for the first time since the 1930’s, with Manchester seeing a resurgence in the start-up of new craft breweries. In fact there are now more than 2,000 breweries operating across the UK, a 64% rise since 2012. The microbrewery industry is booming in Greater Manchester.

On July 2nd the Business & Intellectual Property Centre Manchester at Central Library, will be hosting a workshop on How to Set Up a Microbrewery. We’re partnering with the Greater Manchester Centre for Regulatory Excellence to guide prospective brewers around some of the regulations and legal implications.

The workshop will provide you with an introduction to the things you need to consider when starting & running, a microbrewery business, including basic advice on making sure your business complies with the law.

We’ve got experts from:

Environmental Health – providing advice on what you need to do to ensure you prepare your product safely and in-line with national requirements

Trading Standards – providing guidance on the law regarding what should and should not go on your labelling and packaging.

Fire Protection – covering what you need to put in place to make sure you keep you, your staff and your customers safe.

Plus we’ll be joined by Mark Welsby Co-owner and Head Brewer at Runaway Brewery.

The Business & IP Centre has lots of resources for anyone thinking of starting a food and drink related business, including market research, company information and IP help.

This event is free but you do need to book a place.
