Black History Month 2026

We are delighted to be celebrating and hosting Black History Month (BHM) activities and events this October at many of libraries across the city. Alongside being able to enjoy themed exhibitions and book displays, you can join in the celebrations at these events:
Longsight Library Fun Palace, Sat 3 October, 1.30-3.30pm – BHM poetry/creative writing session hosted by poet Ruth Awolola, using the works of black poets such as Alice Walker as an exploration and starting point.
Central Library Performance Space, Friday 9 October, 11am-2pm – Black Business Stories: Honouring Our Communities Through Enterprise. Celebrate Black entrepreneurship through inspiring stories, leadership insights, panel discussions and networking. Reserve a place here.
Chorlton Library, Saturday 10 October, 11am-3pm – BHM Men’s Health day family event featuring craft activities, DJ workshop, face Painting and food, plus health organisations stalls.

Wythenshawe Forum Library, Wednesday 14 October – Local domestic abuse charity, supporting women from ethnic minorities, Olive Pathway, host a big BHM event including choir and dance performances, a fashion show featuring Miss Africa UK, and range of influential speakers such as Angie Power, Erina Benn MBE, and The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor, Afzal Khan. Refreshments will be available plus a buffet halal lunch at the end of the programme.

Central Library Performance Space, Friday 30 October, 2-4pm – Family Day Rave – Black History Month Special! Get your dancing shoes on and join us for a family day rave at Manchester Central Library, with a specially curated playlist for Black History Month! Free entry, suitable for families.
