Burnage Library, Activity and Information Hub – Our Library of the Month!

Tucked into the corner of Burnage Lane and Shawbrook Road, Burnage Library is a hidden gem brimming with activities, resources, and warmth for everyone in the community. With a rich selection of books, access to the complete library catalogue, free computers, and Wi-Fi, Burnage Library is much more than a place to borrow books—it’s a hub of learning, connection, and fun!
A Community Partnership
Run by the Friends of Burnage Library, in partnership with Manchester Libraries and Southway Housing Trust, Burnage Library operates as the “little library with a big heart,” welcoming visitors 21 hours a week. Library staff work side-by-side with volunteers, creating a space that’s both welcoming and supportive for everyone who walks through the doors.
Activities for All Ages
From tots to seniors, there’s something for everyone. Weekly highlights include:
- Singing Rhyme and Storytime for pre-schoolers and their carers
- Digital Café to support older residents with online skills
- Sewing, Knitting, and Clothing Repair Café
- ESOL classes provided by Manchester Adult Education
- Local History Group, meeting every two weeks
Monthly events keep the calendar packed, from a Carers Meet-Up and Legal Aid Clinic (for benefits and housing advice) to Lego Club and Children’s Art Club on Saturday mornings. Adults can join in too, with creative outlets like the Writing Group, Art Club, and Open Mic sessions.
Summer Fun and a Garden for All Seasons
This summer, Burnage Library buzzed with activities, from the Summer Reading Challenge to creative projects like Marble Run building, Beatboxing, and Storytime Special in the Garden. Holiday workshops had children crafting Olympic medals, torches, and botanical headpieces, bringing art to life with local artist Suzanne Smith.
One of Burnage Library’s unique features is its beautiful garden, a tranquil space where the community can enjoy gardening, outdoor storytimes, and gatherings. It’s a true mood booster, offering the benefits of fresh air, nature, and the chance to connect with others in a peaceful setting.
Celebrating 10 Years of Community
This October, Burnage Library will mark a fantastic milestone with a Meet the Writers event on Saturday, 26th October, from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm. Celebrate the journeys of local writers through Q&A sessions, personal stories, and an open mic to close out the day.
