Celebrating the Marcus Rashford Wall of Hope: Education Resource
Earlier this summer Withington Library hosted a fun-filled celebration event for local schools and the public to celebrate the creation of The Marcus Rashford Wall of Hope: An Educational Resource. This brilliant new digital resource has been created by Manchester Libraries and Withington Walls, in partnership with MBD. It features 100 items from the Marcus Rashford Mural Tributes archive along with films, oral history recordings, activity worksheets and information about the inspiring story behind the mural and the archive.
The event was opened by the new Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Shaukat Ali, and local councillors and trustees from the Manchester Libraries Trust also attended, as well as the artist who painted the mural, AkseP19. Children from St Paul’s CE Primary, Beaver Road Primary and St John’s RC Primary enjoyed a range of exciting activities including visiting the Marcus Rashford mural with Ed Wellard of street art project Withington Walls, making a Lego bee, taking a look at the original archival material from the Marcus Rashford mural tributes archive, choosing a book to keep, learning about the Summer Reading Challenge, having a go on the digital resource, enjoying an ice cream from local ice cream parlour Ice Shack, and writing their own message of hope.
After the schools session, the event was open to the public and more people had an opportunity to come and explore the archive, learn about the resource, plus enjoy afternoon tea and cake.

The messages of hope created at the event are on display in Withington Library, as well as an exhibition of material from the archive.
The resource is available online and is free for everyone to access.
