Cool Spaces

From 1st June until 30th September, most of our libraries will act as ‘cool spaces’ during times when Manchester is experiencing a heatwave – which is when the temperature hits or goes over 25°C for three days in a row. Come and use the library, keep cool, take a seat and have a drink of water if you wish. Some libraries have water freely available, and in some libraries you may ask a member of staff for a glass of water, or to fill your water bottle.
Cool spaces are indoor venues that help reduce health risks during hot weather. They are not meant to provide medical care or support vulnerable people. Instead, they offer shelter from the sun, water, cooling down, and resting areas. Cool spaces are for people who are already out and about and who need to take a break, rest and get some water to help cool down.
All Manchester libraries will be cool spaces, with the exception of Beswick Library.
