Manchester Libraries Lit Up for Spellow Library Reopening – Pictures

Most libraries in Manchester yesterday evening lit up in a gesture of solidarity, hope and joy to mark the reopening of Spellow Lane Library and Community Hub in Liverpool.  Spellow library was torched during the summer’s racist riots and yesterday reopened.

Manchester Libraries are proud to have offered their support by placing a candle in the window of most of their libraries. When the libraries closed in the evening, a candle of solidarity, hope and joy remained on.  Here are a selection of photographs from some of the libraries that were lit .

Burnage Library and Northenden Community Library

Central Library and Miles Platting Library

Newton Heath Library and Longsight Library

Brooklands Library and Wythenshawe Forum Library

Moss Side Powerhouse Library and Abraham Moss Library

Withington Library

A similar gesture was made by hundreds of libraries across the country, which you can view here

Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure says

“Libraries are at the heart of our communities and are a place where people from all parts of our community come together side-by-side – they are beacons of hope and togetherness. We in Manchester are proud to support our colleagues in Liverpool with the reopening of Spellow Library and Community Hub”
