Discover the Joy of Reading with Read, Connect, Belong

Our new library project invites everyone to read more, connect with others and feel part of their community
Libraries across Greater Manchester and Blackburn with Darwen are inviting everyone to celebrate reading, inspire new readers and bring communities together through shared stories and experiences.
Read, Connect, Belong is about celebrating reading in all its forms and creating opportunities for people to come together, discover something new and feel part of their community. Whether you love novels, graphic novels, audiobooks, eBooks, magazines or newspapers, Read, Connect, Belong is all about helping people discover reading in a way that works for them.
Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, Read, Connect, Belong has been developed in response to concerns about declining reading for pleasure and growing social division, recognising the important role libraries play as welcoming spaces where everyone belongs. Through reading, storytelling and shared experiences, the project aims to help people connect with others, build confidence and discover new interests. Read, Connect, Belong runs throughout the National Year of Reading 2026 and continues through 2027.
Particular efforts will be made to reach families on low incomes and young people aged 10–16, helping ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the benefits of reading for pleasure. Partnerships with organisations including community groups, schools, housing providers and transport partners will help libraries reach residents in new and creative ways.
If you’re already a keen reader or haven’t picked up a book for years, we invite you to join us and get involved in a wide range of free events and activities taking place in libraries, community spaces and public locations across Greater Manchester and Blackburn with Darwen.
Events include Take 10 promotions in October, and reading events in Manchester Central Library You can find out more about local events and activities by visiting your local library.
