Reservations

Did you know it is free to place a reservation on an item that is owned by Manchester Libraries? It can be useful if the book is new and is on order, is on loan to another customer or is at another library. Our lovely readers have been busy this year and have placed a total of 92,924 reservations on our books!
Some of our current top titles for reservations are:
- ‘We solve murders’ by Richard Osman
- ‘Meditations for Mortals’ by Oliver Burkeman
- ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw’ by Jeff Kinney
Behind the scenes with the stock team
We regularly keep an eye on the number of reservations on popular titles and order more copies to keep the queues down. We currently have 1181 books on order with our suppliers to meet demand.
Our van drivers visit our library branches each week, moving our books around to bring the titles you want to your local library.
How to place a reservation
Staff in our branches will be happy to help you with placing a reservation for a book that isn’t currently on the shelves at your branch. You can also place reservation requests online on our library catalogue – https://manchester.spydus.co.uk/
1 . Search the library catalogue for the book you are interested in.
2. Click on the ‘Place reservation’ button:

3. Log-in using your library card number and your PIN (if you’re not sure of your PIN you can use the ‘Forgot your password?’ link to request a new one):

4. You can then choose which library you’d like to pick your item up from:

We’ll send you an email to let you know when your reservation is available to collect.
85% of reservations are placed by customers themselves on the catalogue rather than via staff.
As well as getting in the queue for our print stock, you can place reservations on our eBooks and eAudiobooks in Borrowbox by selecting the ‘Reserve’ button:

On Borrowbox you can have 6 loans or reservations at any one time. If you have lots of titles you are interested in you can make use of the ‘My List’ feature and create a reading list, so you can keep an eye on when your favourite titles become available to borrow.
