September History Days at Manchester Central Library 

To coincide with Heritage Open Days 2024, Archives+  has some great open history events lined up this autumn at Manchester Central Library and they’re all free – just drop in!

Join us for a look at some fascinating and beautiful 18th century posters and original letters, previously undiscovered, from our extensive Rochdale Canal Company archive, as revealed by our Archives+ volunteer.

We’re showcasing a selection of highlights from our Rare Books Collection not normally seen – why not pop in and take a look at these astonishing literary treasures hosted by our Special Collections librarian who are always happy to share fascinating facts about our city’s rare books!

Last chance to catch 90/10 Central Library Birthday Exhibition – Free  

All summer we’ve been celebrating our birthdays! It’s 90 years since Manchester Central Library opened and it’s 10 years since we opened our new-look Central Library after its Transformation. Catch the last few days of this fascinating exhibition about the history of this iconic Manchester institution which shows us in wonderful detail how technology may have changed but many things such as culture and arts remain eternally relevant at our fantastic Central Library.
