Longsight Library Fun Palace

Longsight Library had another fantastic Fun Palace on the first Saturday of October. Despite the stormy wild weather outside, we had a lovely turn out of folk in the pursuit connection and fun.

As usual the library’s partners and friends were extremely generous with their time and creativity.

Dragon’s Voice, in amongst the noise and chaos of so many activities and excited children, taught us some really simple and beautiful Tai Chi moves to support both our nervous system and our physical health. Denise created a little oasis for us to dip into. Another of Dragon’s Voice activities was a firm favourite of learning how to write using brushes in the form of Chinese calligraphy.

Such a nice lady. My child was really impressed by seeing his name in Chinese. Great work for community.

Very pleasant and enjoyable to watch the process. The writing itself seems like a form of Art. Very beautiful. Thanks!

Lovely, very clear instruction. Feeling warm & calm. Will look for more.

Very Invigorating. Really enjoyed the Tai Chi. Would like to do again.

Our very own member of staff Cristina made wool monsters with children and families.

Cristina led a brilliant workshop making Aliens. Kids loved it , thank you.

It’s a fun activity for adults too! 🙂

The most amazing if not slightly un-nerving fun was had by children playing with NIHR (National Institute for Health & Care Research) torso model. Think human jigsaw with removable organs. It was an absolute joy to watch children studiously working out where different organs in the body go.

Zoe from the the Children’s Team had come up with a cracker of an activity making both jewellery and Superhero cuffs out of junk.

Joseph Ayavoro, a sculptor, from Creative Hands Foundation made paper people sculptures wearing tradition Yoruba dress.

My son enjoyed this activity. It is interesting to learn about other cultures through this type of activity.

I really enjoyed doing the stick-man in the Black History Month section because it was very creative.

Emma from Building the Bridge shared the art of wax resist painting.

Ms Martin is a great artist. This is abstract art but still cool.

Peoplescape Theatre was joined by the brilliant poet Ruth Awolola. they had an excellent time creating poetry and creative writing in the Poetry Garden.

Fantastic, using our imagination. More please!

Great workshop with friendly staff. Daughter who is 6 really enjoyed decorating her party hat and speaking about what she likes about nature.

Loren from the Whitworth Gallery rocked up with a table full of colour and made Zines with young people and families.

I loved doing the booklet with Loren.

Loren is the most humorous and funny 30 yr old!

The very lovely Alice from Olympias Music Foundation, who delivers music lessons to young people from the library, 5 evenings a week, set up her keyboard and sang with young people. She collected about 20 names and contact details of young people wanting to learn an instrument or join their newly forming children’s choir.
