Manchester Mind – Podcast at the Business & IP Centre

Manchester Mind is a mental health charity which has been delivering services to the local community for 36 years. Their services support young people and adults, and include counselling, advice (benefits, debt and housing), peer support, mental health support sessions, and workplace training.

Samantha Harwood, Marketing and Communications Manager discovered the podcast studio at the Business & IP Centre (BIPC) in Central Library and saw an opportunity to do something different. She recorded Mindfulness and Relaxation for Menopause – the podcast! to coincide with World Menopause Day in October 2024, spotlighting Manchester Mind’s pioneering courses. Since then, Samantha has produced several episodes exploring wellbeing and mental health and we’ve been delighted host the recordings of these podcasts at Manchester Central Library!

As part of Local Mind Week, Manchester Mind launched two insightful podcast episodes under the banner Chats that matter, for minds that matter.” These episodes feature conversations with Lucy Mulligan, Director of Marketing at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and Nino Gioia, a Manchester Mind fundraiser and content creator. The podcasts explore workplace wellbeing, personal mental health journeys, and the power of community support. Both guests share candid reflections and practical advice, helping to raise awareness and challenge stigma around mental health. The series highlights Manchester Mind’s commitment to accessible, engaging mental health resources for the local community. Samantha said:

“As a charity having access to the equipment as a free resource is invaluable to us and gave us an opportunity to do something a bit different!”

“Our podcast has now been listened to over 1000 times! It has helped raised awareness of important wellbeing and mental health topics and the important work we do at Manchester Mind”

Manchester Mind plan to continue to raise awareness, and to share wellbeing tips to help as many people as they can. Their future plans include continuing to challenge mental health stigma and provide mental health services to the people of Manchester. Also, watch this space, as Manchester Mind will soon be available at a new city centre location!
