Northenden Library Update

Northenden Community Library opened in its new location in St Wilfrid’s Church Hall back in the New Year. Since then, the library has continued to grow busier each month, with over 100 new members joined so far and overall active borrowers increasing.
The official launch event on Tuesday 12 March was a success, with councillors, volunteers and members of the public all in attendance to celebrate our new location. Refreshments were offered, along with crafts for families in the hall and over 40 people attended.

As visitor numbers have grown, thanks to our wonderful volunteers, the library has been able to open on Saturdays, extending the library offer to even more people in the community. Recently, we have once again been able to give free internet access with the addition of 2 laptops available for the public to use during opening hours. Our I.T drop-in sessions are also re-starting, in the usual timeslot of 2-4pm every Wednesday.
We may be a physically small library, but we’ve packed plenty of stock in for users to browse – including adult and junior fiction and non-fiction, as well as board books, picture books and large print. Plus, borrowers have access to the entire library catalogue through their membership card and can ask staff to have reservations brought there to pick up.

Age Friendly coffee afternoons every Tuesday continue to be loved by those who attend, as do our increasingly popular Storytimes. Running during term-time only on Friday mornings, the larger hall in the building is well-utilised as children and parents/guardians join in with songs, rhymes, and stories.
“This is the friendliest little library in Manchester” – Derek, one of our long-time attendees of the Age Friendly coffee afternoons.
Be sure to come and visit us and be part of a fantastic community library.
